In today’s video, I’ll show you how to install Windows 11 as a virtual machine using VMware Workstation.
Whether you want to test it out or run it for development, this guide will walk you through every step.

Let’s get started!

Step 1: Download Windows 11 ISO

First, head to the official Microsoft website:

Just Google:
“Download Windows 11 ISO Microsoft”

Click the official Microsoft link and scroll down to “Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)”.
Choose Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO), select your language, and click Download.

Save the ISO to your computer.

Step 2: Open VMware Workstation

Launch VMware Workstation on your PC.
Click on “Create a New Virtual Machine”.

Choose Typical (recommended) and click Next.

Step 3: Select the ISO File

Now choose:

  • Installer disc image file (iso)
    Click Browse and select the Windows 11 ISO you just downloaded.
    Click Next.

Step 4: Choose Guest Operating System

Select:

  • Guest OS: Microsoft Windows
  • Version: Windows 11 x64

Click Next.

Step 5: Name Your Virtual Machine

Give your VM a name like “Windows 11 Test”
Choose a location to save your virtual machine files.

Click Next.

Step 6: Set Disk Size

Set the maximum disk size — 60 GB is recommended.
Choose Store virtual disk as a single file for better performance.

Click Next.

Step 7: Customize Hardware

Before you finish, click on Customize Hardware.

  • Set memory to 4 GB (4096 MB) or more
  • Set processors to at least 2 cores
  • Make sure the CD/DVD drive is connected and pointing to the ISO file
  • (Optional) Enable Virtualization Engine > Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT

Click Close, then Finish.

Step 8: Power On the VM

Now click “Power on this virtual machine.”
The Windows 11 setup will start.

Step 9: Install Windows 11

Go through the standard Windows 11 setup:

  • Choose your language and region
  • Click Install Now
  • If prompted for a product key, click I don’t have a product key
  • Select Windows 11 Pro or Home (your choice)
  • Accept the license terms
  • Choose Custom: Install Windows only
  • Select the virtual disk and click Next

Windows 11 will begin installing.

Step 10: Finish Setup

Once installation completes:

  • Choose your region and keyboard layout
  • Set up a user account
  • Skip or sign in with a Microsoft account
  • Choose your privacy settings

After that, Windows 11 will take you to the desktop!

Optional: Install VMware Tools

Once inside Windows 11:

  • Go to VM > Install VMware Tools
  • Follow the installation prompts inside the VM
  • This improves performance and allows drag-and-drop and better display scaling
